Hull City: Andy Robertson looks every inch the Premier League star

Andy Robertson has been a great signing for Hull City, says Dean Windass

MOST of the headlines regarding Hull City's recruitment in the transfer window have been centred around Abel Hernandez or Hatem Ben Arfa, but the man who's impressed me most is Andy Robertson.

Fully deserving of his Player Of The Month award at the Tigers, the young Scot has done remarkably well to settle in at such a young age in such a tough competition.

Although it's been a summer of record-breaking transfers for Steve Bruce, the £2.85m Hull City paid Dundee United for Robertson looks like a steal.

For me, a price tag is never a worry. You can score a couple of goals in this division and be sold for £12m – a bit like Shane Long.

However, when Robertson first signed I have to be honest and say it took me by surprise.

Putting an untested youngster at the back in the Premier League could have backfired massively and knocked the lad's confidence.

Fortunately, with a former defender as his boss, Robertson has looked a star player already after just four top-flight games.

It shows that Bruce did his homework and he's not afraid to give the untried a shot to prove themselves.

Robertson looks like he's been in the Premier League for a long time, but he's hardly been here a month.

Although a left-back by nature, he's not afraid to get forward and that's what most fans have liked about his start to life in Black and Amber.

As an opposing striker, you hate to see defenders get up front and create chances, and Robertson has done just that.

Against West Ham on Monday night, you could see he was eager to get on the ball and go forward whenever possible, delivering crosses and whipping in balls for the new strike partnership of Hernandez and Nikica Jelavic.

He's got that nastiness and vigour every player needs. You almost see a game of 30 per cent defence, 70 per cent attack with Robertson.

Any signing from the Scottish leagues come with a reputation that they're going to be timid and scared of the English game, but that's not been the case with Robertson.

Maybe the Tigers' opposition have under-estimated the kid, and if that's the case, more fool them.

He's been like a duck to water and I can't wait to see his progress at the KC Stadium over the next few years.

However, there will be times when he gets caught out, but so do the best. Fans have to be patient with the kid. Look at Curtis Davies, hauled off at Aston Villa, it happens to us all.

Fortunately, Robertson looks comfortable playing in Bruce's preferred 3-5-2 formation or switching to the recent 4-4-2 set-up.

Alongside the likes of his skipper Davies and the experienced Michael Dawson, Robertson will be looking to those players to aid his progression every single game.

He is still a baby at 20, but he's got a massive future in football.

I'm expecting him to have another cracker at Newcastle today, and in the position the Toon are in, Robertson will relish getting up close and personal with the Magpies.
