Assem Allam has confirmed he has no intention of giving away Hull City and claims his sarcasm has been misconstrued by the national media.
Dr Allam attracted a host of headlines following his announcement on Thursday that he was putting Hull City up for sale and launching an appeal in his bid to re-name the club Hull Tigers.
Having littered a colourful 45-minute press conference with metaphors, the 75-year-old stunned everyone when saying he would "give it away" if he could not find a buyer for the club or overturn the FA's name change decision.
But after reflecting on how he came across, the man who has sunk at least £70m of his own money into the Tigers since taking over in 2010, says he would not leave the club in the lurch by walking away.
He told the Mail: "I was being sarcastic, because I had already answered the same question before by saying I would carry on as normal and remain fully committed until I find a buyer.
"When asked the same question, I tried to bring some sarcasm to the answer because otherwise I would have had to ignore him or keep on answering the same question over and over.
"This is a Premier League club, the most watched football league in the world, there are only 20 of them in the world.
"I was asked what I would do if I cannot find a buyer, an illogical question, so I answered with a bit of sarcasm.
"People have taken it out of context.
"We have one of the best managers in the world, a very good team and internationals for ten different countries.
"Does anyone actually believe that an English Premier League club will not find a buyer?"
