A former South Hunsley school student who died in a crash on the M62 has been described as polite, respectful and hardworking.
Adam Young, 19, was a passenger in a red Peugeot 206, which hit the central reservation of the motorway near North Cave.
The former deputy head boy at South Hunsley Secondary and Sixth Form College suffered fatal injuries in the crash, which happened shortly before 11pm on Wednesday.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old woman from Brough, broke her right arm in the crash.
Chris Abbott, executive principal at South Hunsley, said she was "deeply sorry to hear of the tragic loss" of Adam, who was from the Blacktoft area.
She said: "Adam's maturity was apparent throughout his time at South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College.
"During his time studying for A-levels it was a delight to see him grow and develop into a polite, respectful and hardworking young man.
"His boundless enthusiasm and outstanding contribution to student leadership through his role as deputy head boy was greatly appreciated by staff and students alike. Nobody had a bad word to say about Adam; he was a lovely boy and his friendly demeanour will be fondly remembered."
The crash happened on the westbound carriageway as the pair were travelling towards Goole.
Miss Abbott said: "The school community, from students through to governors, are all deeply shocked at the news and we all know how much he will be sadly missed by everyone."
Since news of his death has spread, friends have been posting their memories of Mr Young on social networking sites.
On the Mail's Facebook page, Mark Ogram posted: "Rest in peace Adam, only knew you for a short time but a genuinely good guy."
Reverend Graham Thornalley, from Holy Trinity in Blacktoft, said: "I understand Adam was well-known and liked and will be sadly missed by lots of his friends and family.
"His death is a shock to a lot of people."
A police spokesman appealed for anyone with information about the crash to contact the force.
He said: "Adam was travelling in the front passenger seat of a red Peugeot 206, in the direction of Leeds, when a collision occurred with the central reservation of the motorway at approximately 10.40pm.
"The driver, a 19-year-old woman from the Brough area, sustained a broken right arm in the collision.
"Anyone who may have witnessed the collision and has not yet contacted the police is asked to do."
