Hull FC aim to give legend Richard Horne winning send-off

Hull FC will be giving everything they've got on Friday night to ensure Richard Horne's career ends with a climax befitting a club legend.

That's the view of Horne's team-mate and close friend Kirk Yeaman, who says the players owe it to everyone departing the club, but especially Horne to bring the 2014 season to a close with a performance worthy of the occasion.

After 16 seasons and 386 appearances as part of the Hull first-team squad, Horne ends one chapter of his career ahead of a move into the coaching ranks at the Black and Whites next year.

Having made his debut as a 16-year-old against Leeds and celebrated his most memorable triumph in a Hull shirt with a Challenge Cup final victory over the Rhinos in 2005, it's fitting Leeds again provide the opposition for what will be a last-ever run-out for the homegrown star.

Reflecting on the career of a player who has assured his legendary status at the club, Yeaman says Friday will be an emotional night, but one which must end on the right note for Horne and Hull.

"We want to give all the boys who are leaving a good send-off, but especially Richard Horne," Yeaman told the Mail.

"Rich has been fantastic for this club, he's had an amazing career and he deserves a fitting end to his career too. I'm hoping we can give him that Friday night against Leeds.

"I've grown up with Rich and played my full 15 years at Hull FC alongside him. It will be an emotional game for him, but it will be an emotional day for me too knowing I will never play alongside him again.

"He's staying around and will be barking orders at me as we run up and down the hills in pre-season, but it won't be the same as pulling that Black and White shirt on alongside him.

"We'll all miss him on the pitch and in the changing room."

Having missed Sunday's defeat at Huddersfield Giants due to a bug that has swept the Hull camp in the past week, Horne is confident of returning for his swan song at the KC Stadium on Friday night.

Holding the joint record at Hull of tries scored in 11 consecutive games, as well as playing in two Challenge Cup finals, a Grand Final, amassing 134 tries and achieving Great Britain representation, Horne calls time on a career that sees him finish as one of the top scorers of all-time at FC.

While sending the stand-off out on a winning note is high on the agenda for Yeaman and his team-mates, the centre admits the need to put a smile on the faces of the Hull fans is also a priority.

A campaign of optimism has become one of frustration, with the Black and Whites lying 12th going into the final round and with no chance of the play-offs.

"Our fans have followed us home and away and win, lose or draw they turn up every week in big numbers. It is important we give them a good send off too," added Yeaman.

"It was nice to get a good result against Hull KR, we came up short against Huddersfield but it would be nice to send them away into the off season with a smile on their faces after a good performance and result on Friday night."
