When Hull City signed Hatem Ben Arfa on a season-long loan from Newcastle United this week I thought of three of my former team-mates: Juninho, Benito Carbone and Jay-Jay Okocha.
All of them were outstanding players capable of doing things that would make your jaw drop.
Training with individuals that skilful was a genuine pleasure, but they all had flaws to their game because they were essentially a luxury.
I'll pick on Jay-Jay Okocha from his spell at the KC Stadium in 2007-08. He was amazing, an unbelievable talent.
I'm not sure the Championship had ever seen anything like him.
Jay-Jay was better than anyone we had in the squad but in the end it didn't work out because Phil Brown simply didn't know where to play him.
Where could you trust him to do a job? I remember Jay-Jay starting in the hole away to Southampton and we lost 4-0. By the end of that season he was only ever a fringe player. Ben Arfa is a lot younger and comes to the KC with a big point to prove following an unhappy time at St James' Park, but I'm still fascinated how Steve Bruce plans to use him. I can only assume that 3-5-2 is going to be the way forward after signing Michael Dawson.
If you're planning to use Mohamed Diame in midfield and put Abel Hernandez up front with Nikica Jelavic, where does it leave room for Ben Arfa?
You could play two sitting midfielders with the Frenchman in front or you could play him off a front man, maybe more away from home.
However, with Gaston Ramirez, Sone Aluko and Tom Ince also in that sort of attacking mould, Ben Arfa is going to have to impress to play regularly.
It's potentially a mouth-watering signing. I've seen Ben Arfa regularly for Newcastle and he can be outstanding. But Bruce is going to have to succeed where Alan Pardew failed and find room for his new luxury.
If Ben Arfa is anything like Jay-Jay, it won't be straightforward.
