Deputy Humberside police and crime commissioner Paul Robinson is to step down as a councillor.
Mr Robinson had said he would rethink his position after a East Riding councillor after his colleagues described the two roles as "incompatible".
However, he announced today that he would step down as a ward councillor for Howdenshire.
He said: "After a great deal of thought over the last couple of days, I have taken the decision to stand down as an East Riding councillor.
"I am going to concentrate my efforts on being the deputy police and crime commissioner."
Mr Robinson had come under increasing pressure to resign since he was appointed to the £45,000-a-year role last month.
