Government Skills Minister Matthew Hancock believes plans for a £14m new college in Beverley will be a major boost for the town.
The minister was in Beverley today to visit East Riding College and the town's Employment and Skills Centre.
Mr Hancock welcomed the college's plans to open a £14m new campus at the town's Flemingate site in September 2014.
He said: "My department has provided £2m of the funds and the rest has been funded locally, it's real teamwork between the department in London and the college locally."
The minister was also visiting the Humberside Engineering Training Association (HETA) in Hull today.
He said: "There is a big shortage of engineers especially with all the offshore and renewable technology development that is going on.
"My role is making sure we provide the skills that people need, especially youngsters, to make sure they can get a good quality job."
