Hull City owner Assem Allam has extended his support of grassroots sport by agreeing a five-figure sponsorship deal with Hull and East Yorkshire netball team Chevrons.

The Chevrons' top teams, which compete in regional and national competitions, will also be able to practice at the Sports Arena, KC Stadium as part of the deal.

Chevrons have around 200 members ranging from six years of age to over 50.

They have won Humberside Junior League at every age group and are East Yorkshire's only netball club to have represented Yorkshire in the National League at Senior, under-16 and under-14 level, putting it among the UK's top five teams.

In 2012 the club's first team won the Yorkshire regional league and has now progressed to the English Northern League.

Chloe Wilson, vice chairman of Chevrons and head of the juniors, said some of the money had been used to get the girls new kit – all emblazoned with the Allam Marine logo – and more would go towards travel and accommodation costs for away matches, as well as entry fees to leagues and competitions.

She said: "As we climb through the ranks it is important we look good and represent Chevrons as well as we possibly can, so the new kit is absolutely fantastic.

"But the club's ongoing success means we are playing teams across the country and funding the travel and accommodation to those matches was becoming increasingly difficult.

"That is one of the main reasons we got in touch with Dr Allam. He is known for his very generous support of sports clubs in the city and we were at a point where we really needed help to achieve the club's potential.

"We were absolutely delighted when he agreed to help us – the sponsorship means so much to the club and means we can do a lot for our members and the sport of netball in East Yorkshire and across England."

The Tigers owner said: "I decided to help Chevrons because they provide an excellent environment in which young people, girls in particular, can play sport.

"It is my belief sport is the most effective tool for helping to create community spirit and in teaching young people the importance of discipline and hard work, and the rewards that they bring. Chevrons is an exceptional club and another great example of the quality of grassroots sport that exists in East Yorkshire."
