Money taken from illegal loan sharks is benefiting people with mental health problems in Hull.

Recycling Unlimited and The Green Project were successful in applying for a grant from England's Illegal Money Lending Team's Your Choice initiative.

The undisclosed sum has helped the charity in Newland Avenue pay for materials for people suffering with mental health issues to make hanging baskets.

The charity helps people with mental health problems discover new skills like woodwork.

Chairman Eddie Brooks said: "As well as giving people the opportunity to be creative and learn new skills, it also shows beauty can come from the ugliness of loan sharking and the misery that practice causes.

"It is wonderful to see the great efforts of people, many of whom have little or no experience in gardening, producing such lovely hanging baskets."

Tony Quigley, head of the England Illegal Money Lending team, said: "We are thrilled to be working with Recycling Unlimited on this project and hope it helps raise awareness of the dangers of loan sharks."
