Hull FCtestimonial man Richard Whiting says the team could easily have won the game against Castleford Tigers

CLOSE games have been the story of our season and we were obviously all disappointed to draw against Castleford in a game we could easily have won.

Having controlled matters for 65 minutes, we should have killed the game off and it was agonising to see Marc Sneyd inspire his side to a late fightback.

His kick plays and decision making was exceptional and I suppose the one positive is that he will be in our squad next season.

However, whilst it was frustrating not to get over the finish line, we did do some good things that we can build on between now and the end of the season.

We've shown on several occasions that we're capable of staying with sides for long periods, but have lacked the ability to close out games.

That inability has sapped our confidence and had we turned a few of our close defeats into wins earlier in the season, I believe the campaign would have taken on a very different outlook.

However, Cas are the complete opposite to ourselves and their confidence is high after their run to the Challenge Cup semis and impressive league form.

Once they scored to get back into it at 18-10, their tails went up and they believed more tries would come.

Hopefully, Sneyd can bring a bit of that confidence to us for 2015.

Not nice to see Chris Tuson retire

YOUNG Jordan Abdull has been the butt of a few jokes at training after 'breaking his neck' and then returning to training the following day.

As most fans will have seen, he left the field on a stretcher wearing a neck brace in our 18-18 draw with Castleford following a clash with Weller Hauraki.

He claims he had to be carried like that because of medical advice, but after coming back to training with a spring in his step a few of the lads have been asking him if he was putting it on!

Joking aside, the unfortunate news of Chris Tuson's retirement on Tuesday highlights just why the RFL have their medical procedures to follow for neck injuries.

Hearing that a player is having to retire early through injury is never nice, but when it's one of your team mates and friends it's devastating.

I can't begin to imagine how Tus has been feeling since he got the news.

It is, however, great to see the club have offered him a role on the coaching staff.

Having seen the professionalism, dedication, hard work and commitment that he's applied to training and games since he joined the club. I'm sure he'll be a success as a coach.

One thing it does is highlight the stresses and risks rugby players put themselves through and underlines just how quickly it can be taken away from us.

It just reaffirms to me how fortunate I am and have been and how I should never take rugby for granted.
