A FATHER of three is urging the people of Hull to get behind him for his biggest challenge yet.

Aaron Howlett, 38, who shot to local stardom after winning TV show The Biggest Loser, hopes to protect – and beat – his record for Hell on the Humber.

The endurance challenge will see Aaron walk the length of the Humber Bridge carrying 70kg – more than 10st – on his back, for 24 hours.

He will be joined by his sons Patrick, 12, and Tom, 11, who have been inspired by their father to compete in the juvenile Hell on the Humber, which is five miles and involves carrying less weight.

Aaron, who shed an incredible 10st in just 19 weeks on The Biggest Loser, said: "I often ask myself the question of why I am doing it and I think it is because I spent so many years not being able to do things because of my size.

"I want people to see that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. I want to inspire other people. If I can do it, so can they – although I don't want them to break my record."

Aaron, who now works as a personal trainer, has done his fair share of endurance challenges and holds the Hell on the Humber record for carrying 30kg over a 12-hour period.

He did the Great Walk from East Park, in east Hull, to John o'Groats, to Land's End and then back to East Park in just 56 days

His latest challenge will raise money for two Hull causes, Kids in Chanterlands Avenue and the Hull Victoria Titans under-12s rugby team.

He was invited to compete in this year's event and is hoping to break a new record – but to do that, he needs the support of Hull.

He said: "For me, I have to do something more every year. If I want people to support me, it has to be extreme.

"Everyone knows I do marathons, so I am doing this to raise as much money as possible for two great causes.

"It is a big ask for me. There is quite a steep gradient at the beginning and a steady climb at the end.

"I have to do at least four miles before I can stop for a drink and I am not allowed music, which is really bad because you need something to keep you focused.

"I know it is going to be difficult but if people are there to support me, it will make such a difference.

"The more people I can get down there to gee me on, the better."

Aaron's challenge will take place on August 16, from 7am to August 17, 7am.

If you would like to donate, visit Kids or pop into Hull Victoria Titans, where there are sponsor forms.
