AN ANGRY mum is urging thieves to hand themselves in after her son's moped was stolen from their family home one month after he bought it.
Three men have been caught on camera stealing the bike, which belongs to 16-year-old Kye Johnson, during the early hours of July 21.
The fuzzy footage shows the men walking down Grimscott Close, Bransholme, before one climbs the family home's front garden fence. He then unlocks the gate from the inside and allows his friend in. All the time, a third person appears to keep lookout on the road.
About 20 minutes later, the bike is taken from the front garden.
The family bought the bike just last month and police are now investigating the matter.
Kim Mercer, Kye's mum, said: "Kye is absolutely devastated by what has happened. That bike was his pride and joy.
"He has a lot of friends in Beverley and he used the moped every night to go to see them.
"We have had a look at the CCTV and the three men already knew the bike was there. We have a 6ft wall, so it's not like they could have spotted it from the road.
"What they have done is disgraceful and they need to hand themselves in, or at the very least give the motorbike back."
The bike is a red, black and white limited edition Aprilia, worth about £1,400.
It has the number three on the side and is less than a year old.
Miss Mercer said: "Kye is such a sensible son. He had worked hard to pass his test and get his insurance and tax for the bike.
"I have spent countless hours going out in my car and looking for the bike on the estate. It is definitely people who live locally.
"Kye loved that bike and I will not give in until we get it back.
"Kye starts at Hull College in September and has aspirations of becoming an electrician one day.
"Ideally, he'll have his bike to get him there every day.
"He hasn't been the same since and is spending most of his time in his bedroom. He wants his independence back."
The family also had items stolen from their garage a couple of years ago and are calling for tougher policing on the estate.
Miss Mercer said: "Burglaries calmed down a bit on Bransholme, but they are definitely on the rise again and it is a shame.
"More people now than ever have cameras in their properties because of the problems. Ordinary people just think the criminals are getting away with it."
