Motorists heading in and out of Beverley are facing disruption after a hole appeared in Walkington Road, close to the Westwood.
The deep hole, measuring six to eight inches in diameter, was discovered by a member of the Beverley Golf Club yesterday afternoon.
It is thought the appearance of the hole, close to a manhole, may be connected to the storms in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police have sealed off a section of the road and motorists are being diverted.
Richard Reynolds from Beverley Golf Club said: "This is one of the main routes into Beverley and a lot of people are having difficulties getting into town.
"Fortunately members have still been able to get to the golf club, but we hope it just gets sorted as quickly as possible to avoid further disruption for people."
