HULL City face a battle if they wish to sign £1.5m-rated Gambian striker Modou Barrow. According to the Daily Mail, the Tigers are weighing up the prospect of bidding for the 21-year-old striker, who is currently plying his trade with Swedish side Ostersunds FK. Barrow was the subject of a £600,000 bid from Bolton after spending last week on trial with the Championship club. A prolific scorer as a teenager in the Swedish lower leagues, Barrow quit IFK Norrkoping for personal reasons, but scored six goals in nine games in the first half of the Swedish season, attracting interest from British clubs. Ostersunds president Daniel Kindburg is keen to conclude a deal in the next fortnight and claims City, QPR, Middlesbrough and Everton will watch Barrow against Sundsvall tomorrow night after Bolton's opening offer was kicked out. However, it's Celtic who look to be winning the initial race for the forward. "We have rejected a £600,000 bid," Kindberg told Sportsmail. "We put Modou in the price range of £1.5m but it depends on the structure and sell-on clause. We also want to look after the player. "He has just arrived back from Bolton because we have an important game on Friday when we start the autumn part of the season. "We had a very encouraging report from (Bolton boss) Dougie Freedman about the player. We have an English manager in Graham Potter and a Scots assistant in Billy Reid, who has been speaking to people at Celtic about the player. "Billy is an expert in getting talented players to the top level from his years in Scotland and has done a great job with Modou. We think he will take some big steps in the game." Reid, who oversaw the development of the likes of James McCarthy and James McArthur at Hamilton, was full of praise for the striker, saying: "Modou is sensationally quick and technically good. If anyone was going to be worth big money in the future, it is this guy. He's got great potential."Latest Robertson offer knocked backDUNDEE United have knocked back another bid from the Tigers for Andy Robertson, as well as an offer from a League One outfit for Gary Mackay-Steven. Deeming both to be below their respective valuations, United said a firm no to City's second approach for their right-back, while the League One side was told to think again after trying to get the winger. A club source told the Dundee Courier: "There have been two bids but neither came close to what we believe the players are worth."Bruce hopeful of sealing Maguire dealSTEVE Bruce is hopeful of thrashing out a deal to make Harry Maguire Hull City's fourth signing of the summer, despite seeing a £1.75m bid rejected by Sheffield United. The Tigers' long-standing interest in Maguire has intensified over recent days and negotiations between the two clubs are known to be ongoing. United have so far held firm on their valuation of the 21-year-old, knocking back a series of bids from City and Wolves this summer, but the Tigers are edging ever closer to a deal. An optimistic Bruce said: "We like him. We tabled a bid which was rejected. I think we'll revisit it." The central defender has been without a club since leaving the Red Devils in the summer and has just returned to England after spending the summer working in Brazil as a pundit for the BBC. R's boss Harry Redknapp held talks with Ferdinand earlier this week in a bid to try and thrash out a deal for the 35-year-old. And a move back to the capital for the Londoner looks on the cards providing he successfully passes a medical.Swap 'till you drop AND finally, football fans and collectors will have another chance to finish their World Cup Panini sticker books at a swap event at Hull Central Library today (Thursday, July 17). The sticker swap challenge will take place from 4pm to 6.30pm at the library in Albion Street. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
