A CITY centre indoor market is holding a series of festive workshops in the lead-up to Christmas.
Traders at the Trinity Indoor Market will pass on some of their skills on to shoppers, from wreath-making to creating your very own ukulele.
The hope is the workshops will help boost trade at the market which has seen business fall recently.
Simon Lewis, of Strung Up Audio, is behind the initiative.
He said: "We are holding the workshops for the next three Saturdays.
"We want families and children to take part. The great thing is that people get to take home what they make and it is all free.
"The Echoes Foundation will also be holding a tombola.
"We have been helped out by community interest company Volyoume and have been given some funding by Hull City Council.
"Things have been a bit quiet here recently so, hopefully, we can attract more shoppers to the market."
As well as the workshops at the indoor market, the outdoor market is also being expanded this Christmas.
The 18-stall market will now increase to 24 stalls and will extend from Trinity Square into Trinity House Lane and Whitefriargate.
The stalls will offer something different with vintage, kitsch, handmade and locally produced items and artworks.
Hull's Old Town is the focus of the city's town team partnership that was given money recently from the Portas Review.
The team is working to grow Hull's Old Town as a distinct area of the city with a thriving café bar and restaurant sector alongside a cluster of independent retailers and public spaces.
Council leader Councillor Steve Brady said: "This extra activity in the area should drive footfall and offer an alternative shopping and city centre experience while showing of the historic Old Town area.
"We want to support the market to thrive, which is why, working with our partners, we have funded three stalls and they have funded another three extra stalls.
"We hope people get in the festive spirit and come here to buy some of their presents for Christmas."
Kathryn Shillito, city centre manager of Hull Bid, said: "We are delighted to have been able to offer support.
"The market and the goods sold offer something distinctive to the shopper looking for a niche gift.
"It complements perfectly the city's mix of high street brands and quality independents and will help draw and retain footfall much to the benefit of the businesses."
The workshops at the indoor market will run from 10am each Saturday until December 15 and will complement other festive entertainment in the run-up to Christmas.
There will be free parking on Saturdays until December 29 at George Street and Pryme Street multi-storey car parks.
The Christmas and New Year market will take place on Saturday, December 22, 10am to 3pm, inside Holy Trinity Church.
