I WOULD like to congratulate Chris Chester on his appointment as head coach at Hull KR until the end of the season.
If their result against St Helens is anything to go by I'm sure he'll put himself as a leading contender to keep the job full time.
It's good to see young British coaches being given a chance to prove themselves after serving apprenticeships at a club, and Chris is now the third former team-mate who is a head coach of a SL club.
Add to that Brian McDermott, Shaun Wane, James Lowes, Daryl Powell, Paul Anderson, Iestyn Harris and Denis Betts, who are all British head coaches, it appears that the trend of employing Aussie coaches may no longer be seen as the norm.
Before people start, I know James Webster is an Aussie, but he has come through the coaching ranks in the UK and has been over here so long, I think it only fair to class him as a British coach now! Thanks to everyone for attending my events IT wasn't until speaking to someone the other day that I realised just how costly the last couple of months have been for the FC fans, so I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those people who have attended my testimonial events recently.
Not playing a home game for eight weeks is bad enough for the fans, but then throw in that three of those weekends have been the Magic Weekend, London and Catalan away.
The money that some fans, who travel to every game home and away, have had to pay out to follow us in that period must be staggering.
I really appreciate all the support for my events.Le Grand depart my highlight WHAT a great couple of days of sport it was last weekend if you're a sports fan, particularly in the UK.
A full round of Super League, the Wimbledon finals, the GB Grand Prix, and the highlight of the weekend for me, the Grand Depart of the Tour De France.
I managed to watch most of the opening day's ride on Saturday and had planned on trying to attend along the route somewhere on the Sunday, only to have those plans scuppered by playing for Doncaster.
From viewing the footage on TV though, there's one thing for sure, the people of Yorkshire definitely know how to show support to an event that's held on their doorstep.
Most people won't really have much of an interest in professional cycling but that didn't stop over 2.5 million people lining the streets to cheer the riders on.
In the aftermath the organisers of the Tour have come out and said they'd like to come back to Yorkshire again such was the level of support. There has also been talk of a Tour of Yorkshire sometime in the future, both of which would be great for the region.
