The crackdown over the first four months of a new collection policy aimed at reducing contamination levels in recyclable household waste is revealed in a new council report.
The new rules banning certain types of rubbish from being left in blue bins was introduced in January.
The move was aimed at stopping people filling their blue bins with plastic bags, food waste, nappies and textiles.
It followed an increase in contamination issues being caused by the materials at the main recycling plant used by the council.
The report says: "Approximately 300 blue bins have been removed due to repeated contamination.
"This represents only 0.25 per cent of the blue bins currently in use.
"The contamination project has seen a significant improvement in the quality of the materials collected.
"Levels of contamination are now at a more acceptable level."
"Work is ongoing to further reduce contamination through targeting of collection rounds with the poorest-quality materials."
Initially, bins with the wrong rubbish in were not collected.
Instead, residents were given letters advising them about what materials were acceptable.
