TWO police officers are to be questioned under caution about their contact with the family of a toddler just weeks before she died in hospital.
The officers will be interviewed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
The Mail revealed in February that the IPCC had launched an investigation into Humberside Police's contact with the family of 22-month-old Mia Gregson on January 25.
Mia died on February 13.
A statement released by the IPCC said: "Two Humberside officers are due to be interviewed under caution by the IPCC early this month.
"The death of a one-year-old girl was referred to the IPCC on February 17.
"Following an assessment of the information in the referral, an independent IPCC investigation into the previous police contact relating to the child was launched."
A man and a woman, both aged 20, were initially arrested following Mia's death.
They have since been released from their bail after tests revealed Mia died of natural causes.
The family lived in Dorset Street, Gypsyville, but have since moved.
The IPCC said it could not reveal the exact date the officers will be questioned.
In the days after Mia's death, floral tributes were left outside the family flat.
One message read: "To my darling Mia. My heart is breaking.
"How are we ever supposed to live without you?"
The IPCC suspended its investigation while Humberside Police waited for medical test results on the cause of Mia's death.
It then relaunched its investigation last month.
In a statement released in February, the force said: "Humberside Police have referred a case to the IPCC following the death of a 22-month-old girl, following police contact in Hull.
"Initial contact between Humberside Police and the girl's family was on Saturday, January 25.
"On Thursday, February 13, police were called to the family home after reports of the girl being in a life- threatening condition.
"She sadly died later that day at Hull Royal Infirmary."
At the time, neighbour Karl Whitehand, 32, spoke of his brave attempt to save the little girl's life.
He said: "It was the scariest and most emotional thing I have ever done.
"The mum went running into the street crying for help. I ran inside her house and the little girl was lying on the sofa.
"I tried everything I could, but it was too late."
