A JEALOUS boyfriend knocked his girlfriend unconscious after he was told she had kissed another man, a court heard. Michael James Dale, 31, punched Sarah Robinson in the face when she tried to intervene as he attacked the other man.
The couple were drinking at his neighbour's house after an earlier argument when Dale was told Miss Robinson had kissed another man.
Earlier on, he had pushed her over an ironing board during an argument, injuring her knee.
In a statement read at Hull Crown Court, Miss Robinson said: "There is not a day goes by that I don't think about the assault.
"I feel very hurt and angry."
Prosecutor Claire Holmes said the pair had been drinking together inside Dale's flat in Victoria Avenue, west Hull, on December 13 last year.
She said: "They had been in a relationship for three years, but things had not been going well between them.
"Although they were trying to make things work, they were living separately.
"On the night, she was at the defendant's flat and they were drinking vodka together. In the early hours of the next day, Michael Dale lost his temper and began smashing things.
He pushed Miss Robinson, causing her to fall on to an ironing board."
Miss Robinson then left the flat and bumped into Dale's neighbour, who invited her in for a drink with her ex-partner and a friend.
Dale then came out and they all decided to go into the flat.
Miss Holmes said: "They all carried on drinking together. As a result, Michael Dale came to believe Miss Robinson had kissed one of the other men.
"He started fighting with him and put him in a headlock. Miss Robinson went over to them and was telling him to stop.
"He then turned to Miss Robinson and punched her to the face, causing her immediate pain. The next thing she recalls is being on the floor, having been unconscious."
She suffered a swollen and bruised eye and a cut to her eyebrow and was unable to open her eye for the next two days.
Dale admitted causing actual bodily harm to Miss Robinson.
Judge Michael Mettyear, the Honorary Recorder of Hull and the East Riding, said: "She has suffered a lot and she is worried about this. This was disgraceful conduct."
Dale was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, undergo supervision and pay £500 costs.
Judge Mettyear also imposed a three-year restraining order, banning Dale from contacting Miss Robinson or entering an area near her home.
