Hull City Council is seeking a court order to have travellers removed from a site off Anlaby Road. About a dozen caravans moved on to the old Riley College site, in Parkfield Drive, yesterday. Half their number have since left and the council will go to the courts tomorrow to obtain an order for the removal of those who remain. The Mail recently revealed how removing travellers from illegal sites had cost the local authority more than £35,000 over the past three years. Laura Carr, City Neighbourhoods and Housing Manager, said: "We're aware that travellers have set up an unauthorised encampment on the old Riley site, off Parkfield Drive. "We are currently working with our partners in other agencies and are following our agreed procedures. "We will continue to monitor this area and would encourage any residents or businesses with concerns to report them via 01482 300 300 or in any Customer Service Centre." The Mail understands the travellers will be heading to Sewerby and then on to the Seamer Horse Fair, which is due to be held between July 11-15.
