Allegations Jimmy Savile committed sexual abuse at the former De La Pole Hospital near Hull cannot be proven, according to a report published today.
Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is the legacy organisation for the hospital, which cared for vulnerable people and patients with mental health problems before closing down in the 1990s.
The trust was asked to carry out an investigation about an incident alleged to have taken place on the hospital's orthopaedic ward in the late 1960s or early 1970s.
Savile was said to have sexually assaulted a patient while she was in traction on the ward. The allegations were made by a nurse and a statement was also received from an anonymous source.
Chief nurse information officer Steve Jessop, who led the investigation, said: "Working together with Humberside Police, we have thoroughly investigated the allegations passed to us by the Metropolitan Police Service and the Department of Health last year.
"The allegations date back about 45 years and, because of the time-frame and the conflicting nature of the statements obtained, this has been, at times, a difficult investigation to progress.
"However, based on the statements gathered and having reviewed what documentary evidence exists, we have concluded that while it is likely Jimmy Savile visited De La Pole Hospital's orthopaedic ward, no actual case of abuse can be proven.
"As a result, the investigation team has not made any subsequent recommendations as a review of this investigation and its findings. However, it has made a single recommendation concerning the future management of VIP and visitors for the hospital trust going forward."
Savile was exposed as a serial sex attacker after his death in 2011. He is believed to have used his charity work as cover to abuse hundreds of people, including many at hospitals across the country.
The allegations about De La Pole came to light last November, when health secretary Jeremy Hunt announced investigations into possible abuse by the former Jim'll Fix It star at 19 hospitals.
