Our daily blog with the latest news, transfer rumours and gossip about Hull City in the Premier League. June 20: Southampton to offer Jose Fonte new deal, and Norwich City holding out over Robert Snodgrass cash.
Hull City have been frustrated in their search for a new central defender, with West Brom winning the race for free agent Joleon Lescott. Now, another reported target could be taken out of their reach, according to The Sun.
Southampton defender Jose Fonte looks set to be offered a new contract by the Saints in an attempt to quell the interest shown by the Tigers and Premier League new boys QPR.
The 30-year-old Portuguese defender, who joined Saints from Crystal Palace in 2010, was last month reported to be a £3m target for Steve Bruce, but new boss Ronald Koeman wants him to stay on.
Lescott was formally unveiled as a West Brom player this morning, signing a two-year deal at the Hawthorns.
Bruce may yet consider a move for Tottenham's Michael Dawson, but would need to find about £4m to tempt Spurs.
Canaries want £6.5m for Tigers target Snodgrass Norwich City winger Robert Snodgrass has always been a prominent figure on Hull City's summer shopping list and Scotland's Daily Record is continuing to link the Tigers with a swoop. But the Record claims City will now be asked to stump up an unlikely £6.5m for their "top target", even though the Scottish international has just 12 months left on his current deal. Snodgrass is well-liked at the KC Stadium but there is apparently work still to be done before the two clubs can agree to a deal for the one-time Leeds man.
Will Figueroa suffer same fate as England? England suffered World Cup heartache last night when defeat to Uruguay left them staring down the barrel of an early exit. Now, the pressure is on Hull City defender Maynor Figueroa to avoid the same fate. Figueroa's Honduras lost 3-0 in their opening game of Group E and know defeat to Ecuador tonight would almost certainly condemn them to an early flight home. Ecuador also lost their first fixture, going down 2-1 to Switzerland, and will be keen to keep their hopes alive with a victory. Honduras has never won a game at the World Cup finals and will be desperate to end that run at the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba. The odds are stacked against Honduras but a corner of East Yorkshire may soon adopt them as a chosen nation following England's familiar demise.
