THE end is in sight for what has been dubbed the "road to nowhere".
At the moment, the new link road in Kingswood comes to an abrupt halt halfway along its route.
The completed half, including street lights and bollards, was finished earlier this year by the Kingswood Parks development company.
However, the remaining section is still just fields.
Responsibility for the unfinished half lies with Hull City Council as part a joint funding deal with the development company.
The council initially allocated funding in July 2012 to complete its section of the road.
Since then, delays in the tendering process to appoint a contractor have held up progress, missing an initial target to be ready in time for the opening of Kingswood's new primary school this September.
Now the council has appointed Hull contractor PBS Construction to complete the link road.
The £985,000 contract is one of the company's largest in Hull for some years.
Councillor Charles Quinn, who represents the Kings Park ward, said: "This is good news and a giant step forwards.
"Residents of Kesteven Way and Kingsbury Way have been waiting for ten years for the link road to be built.
"After some delays to the tendering process I have been told the road is now hoped to be completed by the end of this year.
"There have already been some setbacks to the construction of the road this year so I will be keeping an eye on things.
"It will provide easy access to the new primary school, health centre and village centre for thousands of Kingswood residents."
