Supermarket chain Morrisons has announced 2,600 management job cuts as a result of a change to its structure.
It was too early to say how many East Yorkshire staff would be affected, a spokesman said.
The supermarket, which has 126,000 staff, is cutting out middle managers and said trials suggested its new system would improve performance.
While department managers and supervisors will be at risk, 3,000 jobs are being created in new supermarkets and 1,000 in convenience stores while the company will "look to offer displaced colleagues the opportunity to work in these growing businesses".
Chief executive Dalton Philips said: "This is the right time to modernise the way our stores are managed.
"These changes will improve our focus on customers and lead to simpler, smarter ways of working.
"We know moving to the new management structure will mean uncertainty for our colleagues and we will be supporting them through the process."
Morrisons, which is based in Bradford, posted a £176m loss in the year to February and its sales dropped 7.1 per cent in the first three months of 2014.
The company has announced plans to cut product prices by £1bn in the next three years.
