Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Grove will be taking a tour of Bransholme. Mark Williams finds out more.

A POLICE chief says antisocial behaviour issues are being tackled hard ahead of an eagerly-anticipated tour of parts of Bransholme on Friday, July 11.

Humberside police and crime commissioner Matthew Grove will spend the day taking questions from schoolchildren and meeting residents with issues to raise.

Much of the tour will be in and around Midmere Avenue and Dorchester Road with members of the public encouraged to get out and meet Mr Grove.

Ahead of the trip, the commissioner has highlighted his own concern over antisocial behaviour and shed burglaries on the estate, but says work is being done to slam the brakes on the problem.

Mr Grove said: "I have visited Bransholme many times since taking office and this latest visit is a chance for me to speak to residents and get their views on crime in the area which they live.

"Crime in Bransholme is significantly lower than it was ten years ago and people tell me they feel safer, which is obviously a good thing.

"However, crimes such as shed burglaries and antisocial behaviour are still an ongoing problem that we are addressing.

"We have an excellent neighbourhood policing team on the estate who work in partnership with Hull City Council and other agencies to make a real difference to the lives of residents living there.

"The most encouraging factor is a strong community spirit on Bransholme with everyone, including residents, councillors, retailers, schools and community groups, working hard together to tackle the problems.

"I am looking forward to the visit to hear everyone's views."

Grove will begin by taking aQ and A session at Winifred Holtby Academy from 10am to noon.

The session will be taken with year nine and Year 10 students and also members of the school council.

He will then hold a working lunch with Dorchester Road and Midmere Avenue Residents' Association from Between 1pm to 2pm, Mr Grove will take a Q and A hour with the association, chaired by Neville Allison.

Finally, from 2pm to 3pm, Mr Grove will go on a bus tour of the Dorchester estate and take in parts of Sutton too as he meets residents and hears their issues.

Mr Grove visited Bransholme in March and said he received positive vibes from local residents.

Mr Grove said: "This visit is one of a series of council ward surgeries I have been invited to, since the start of this year.

"Residents views are important to me as I use them to set the objectives for the police force in my police and crime plan. I am also able to monitor the performance of Police on behalf of residents.

"The feedback last time was incredibly positive.

"Everybody was saying they were very happy and feeling safe.

"The priorities for them were things such as dog fouling.

"When I go to an area and dog fouling is the number one issue, I know I am in a very safe place.

"Bransholme is a very different place from what it was ten years ago."

It is expected Mr Grove will be accompanied on the bus tour by councillors David Craker, Terry Keal and Ken Turner.

Neville Allison, chairman of Dorchester Road and Midmere Avenue Residents' Association, said: "This really is a great opportunity for people on this part of the estate to not only meet our police and crime commissioner but also raise any concerns they have with him.

"We will be holding a lunch meeting, and Q and A session with Mr Grove and hopefully lots of people will come along and get involved with his bus tour too.

"It is all about the public engaging with people like Mr Grove who make big decisions on behalf of a lot of people.

"Feedback is very important if those decisions are going to be made correctly."

The working lunch will take place at Dorchester Road Primary School.
