HULL hammer thrower Alex Smith has set his sights on finally clinching a Commonwealth gold medal in Glasgow after receiving a call-up to the England squad.
The 26-year-old is hoping he can go one step further four years on after sealing a silver medal, but coming ever so close to getting a gold.
With no tournament since the medal-less London 2012 Olympics games, Smith is eager to return to the track and push for the top spot.
"I'm over the moon with my call-up and can't wait to link up with the rest of the squad in Glasgow," he told the Mail.
"I've known about my call-up for the last two weeks and it's been difficult trying to keep it a secret from everybody.
"I've been itching to get back out there since London 2012 and I'll be looking to go one step further this time around.
"The Olympics and Commonwealth Games four years ago have provided me with that sort of big-arena experience I needed.
"I'll be expecting myself to push for the gold this time after coming so close previously.
"I have a lot more confidence now than I did four years ago and hopefully I can put that into my work on the track."
