NORTH Carr police officer Steve Hepworth has scooped an award for his impressive work on a crime fighting project in Bransholme.

PC Hepworth, pictured, spearheaded a scheme that helped transform the lives of people living in a housing complex in St Ambrose Court, Bransholme.

The area had previously been plagued by crime and antisocial behaviour, which, in one weekend, led to 34 calls for help.

Last year, vulnerable residents had to deal with bogus callers, thefts from their homes and distraction burglaries.

That is when PC Hepworth stepped in with Riverside ECHG and Hull Churches housing associations to combat the problem.

They installed CCTV with audio, put padlocks on their sheds and built strips on the fences to prevent crooks climbing over.

And now, PC Hepworth, two PCSOs and three community safety volunteers have all been recognised with a divisional commanders award.

The scheme will now be rolled out across the rest of the city.

PC Hepworth said: "This has been a massive breakthrough and will provide a blueprint for other areas.

"This is the first time we have done anything like this in Hull and worked so closely with the private sector.

"It has been a huge success and I am really proud of what we have achieved here."
