A MAJOR search was sparked when a woman climbed over the railings of North Bridge in Hull and threatened to jump into the river.
She was seen climbing over the railings of the bridge just after 10pm on Monday by a member of the public, who contacted the emergency services.
Despite a lengthy search by Humberside Police, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and Humber Coastguard, no trace of the woman was found.
A police spokeswoman said: "Police received a call reporting concern for the safety of a woman who was believed to have climbed over the railings on North Bridge in Hull city centre.
"A thorough area search was undertaken involving police and fire services but no one was found.
"The situation continued to be monitored with inquiries ongoing overnight, and the incident was closed this morning following all inquiries giving a negative result."
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to try to locate the woman.
A spokesman for Humber Coastguard said: "A search of the area was carried out. All the teams stood down once the search was completed and returned to their respective stations."
