IS Rio Ferdinand about to be handed a Premier League lifeline by Hull City boss Steve Bruce?
Although the Daily Mail reported there to be a genuine interest in the defender from the Tigers, it looks to be a very, very long shot indeed.
The former England defender confirmed earlier in the week that he would be leaving Manchester United after 12 years at Old Trafford.
Ferdinand is said to have offers from the MLS and clubs in China, but the one-time world's most expensive defender may want to remain in England, where he has played his whole career.
However, when asked whether he would be interested in signing the ex-Leeds United man, Bruce responded tongue-in-cheek: "Rio has been a wonderful player. Who knows? If he fancies a game…
"We've cast an eye on a few things. I haven't looked into that yet, because the news only broke last night.
"We've got Arsenal at Wembley on Saturday, so let me get over the weekend first, and then I'll see if we'll give him a call."
It looks highly unlikely Ferdinand will drop from the 2012/13 champions level to the Tigers, and City's eyes will lay elsewhere to strengthen in defence.
Much like the Ryan Giggs 'offer' in recent weeks, this is one transfer rumour that almost certainly won't happen.Wenger will walk – Windass
TIGERS legend Dean Windass caused a stir yesterday when he claimed Arsene Wenger will WALK AWAY from Arsenal – even if he guides the club to FA Cup success.
Wenger is out-of contract this summer and has not signed an extension to stay at the club, even though an offer of a new deal has been on the table for months.
Despite insisting he will remain at Arsenal after clinching Champions League football for next season, Wenger is sure to come under increasing pressure to leave the Gunners if the club's wait for a trophy is extended to a decade.
But Windass believes the Arsenal boss will bring his 18-year reign at the club to an end regardless of the result at the weekend.
"I think Arsene will walk away," Windass told the Daily Star.
"He has been one of the most successful managers in Premier League history and to have been in charge of Arsenal for as long as he has is incredible. But Arsene has had his time and if they do not win the FA Cup he should leave.
"Even if they were to win the FA Cup, I still think he should walk away and let someone new start a fresh era at the club.
"At the end of the day, Arsenal are a massive football club and are used to winning trophies. And having not won any silverware for nine years, fans are right to question his ambition."Dean Windass was speaking at an official Beko event. www.beko.co.uk Ramsey in complacency warningAARON Ramsey has warned his Arsenal team-mates that they cannot afford any complacency heading into this weekend's FA Cup final against the Tigers.
The Gunners are the heavy favourites to beat City at Wembley and end their nine-year wait for a major trophy.
But the 23-year-old says Bruce's boys will be out for "revenge".
"We're used to being favourites going into games so I don't think that will affect us in any way," Ramsey told Arsenal Player.
"But it's going to be a difficult game, it's a final and they're always tough.
"Even though we've beaten Hull twice this season, I'm sure they'll be wanting to get some sort of revenge over us so we have to be aware of that.
"But we're confident in our own ability and if we play the way we know we can, I'm sure we'll go on and win the game." Pires says Cup win will be psychological boost
FORMER Arsenal star Robert Pires believes the psychological impact of ending a near decade's trophy quest in Saturday's FA Cup final would make a huge difference to the current squad.
Pires, who won the Premier League twice and three FA Cup finals as Wenger's side swept all before them at the turn of the Millennium, feels the current squad can only get better once they have proven themselves as winners.
"For the fans, for the club, for the board, for Arsene Wenger, the final is very important," the 40-year-old French World Cup winner told the Daily Mail.
"It is very important psychologically because every player knows it is very hard to win any title, especially after a long time.
"Everybody at Arsenal knows big pressure is on the shoulders of the players because we need to win, to concentrate and focus. But they must keep focused on the final, it is not an easy game.
"We won 3-0 (at City) a few weeks ago, but the Premier League and FA Cup final is totally different."Croatia include Jelavic
AND finally, it's congratulations to Tigers striker Nikica Jelavic, who has been named in Croatia's provisional 30-man World Cup squad.
Jelavic is the only Croatian forward named to be playing in the Premier League.
Only QPR midfielder Niko Kranjcar and Dejan Lovren from Southampton join Jelavic in representing England's top-flight.
