TRIBUTES have been paid to a Hull boy who died the day before his 14th birthday.
Tyran Henderson died peacefully in his sleep at Hull Royal Infirmary on Tuesday, with mum Katrina by his side.
He had suffered from a number of conditions, including cerebral palsy, epilepsy and microcephaly (small head syndrome).
Katrina, of Bilton Grange, east Hull, said: "Tyran passed away peacefully in his sleep with me by his side.
"He had been quite ill since last September when he caught an ear infection and things started to go downhill from there.
"He went into hospital the day before he died.
"I am just so glad everything was so peaceful for him and I was there with him."
Katrina cared for Tyran at home.
He attended Tweendykes Special School and regularly went to Sunshine House, which provides palliative care and support to families with children who have life-limiting illnesses.
To mark what would have been Tyran's 14th birthday last Wednesday, Katrina, his four-year-old sister Poppy, along with friends and family paid a trip to his favourite place, Hornsea.
It was there the family released balloons in Tyran's memory and wrote special messages to him, which they placed in a bottle and sent out to sea.
"We wanted to do something special for Tyran," Katrina said.
"Poppy used to help me look after him in her own little way, so it was nice for us to do something like this.
"Tyran loved the seaside because it was very peaceful and relaxing for him.
"He also really enjoyed going to school – they would often take him swimming to the hydrotherapy pool, which he loved."
Tyran enjoyed spending time at Sunshine House in Walker Street, west Hull.
He last featured in the Mail when a group of children received a free teddy bear to treasure and keep when they went to Sunshine House.
Katrina said: "Tyran loved that day, he loved getting a new teddy and he also liked having his picture taken by the photographer."
Katrina described Sunshine House's services as a "godsend" to families in the area.
"If we didn't have this service in Hull then our children would have been housebound," she said.
"When Tyran went there I always knew he was well looked after. I don't know what I would have done without them.
"Tyran was poorly all the time for the first eight years of his life. We had diagnosis after diagnosis.
"He really did suffer and deep down we knew his illnesses were life-limiting.
"We didn't know how he managed to go on for as long as he did."
Tyran's funeral will be held at Eastern Cemetery on Wednesday at 10am.
Katrina said: "I would like everyone to wear something yellow as that was Tyran's favourite colour.
"It will be nice and bright."
Katrina will also be collecting donations for Sunshine House.
Donations keep Sunshine House providing careWORK on Sunshine House's family room is now complete, thanks to the support of The Smile Foundation, in partnership with the Hull & East Yorkshire Business Community.
The facility offers palliative and terminal care and support to families in the Hull area.
The service is managed by the City Health Care Partnership, which provides the unit with everything the children and staff need from a medical perspective.
Charitable donations raised by staff and friends of Sunshine House will to be used to refurbish the sensory equipment and to ensure children have a happy, positive and stimulating short break.
It will also fund a variety of other much- needed projects similar to the Forget Me Not and family room, such as additional children's rooms in the building, the cinema room, the garden and other items that the NHS is unable to provide.
