MYTON Warriors boss Tony Spence believes his side's defeat at Rochdale Mayfield, which ended a four-match winning run, is just what they needed as they prepare to visit Milford Marlins.

The Warriors succumbed to a 40-20 defeat to the second-placed outfit in National Conference Division One, after they looked to be turning a corner in the league following a dismal start to the campaign.

Blaming his side's lack of muscle up front, Spence is now keen to see his side recover from the blip as they take a trip down the M62.

"We were taught a massive learning curve against Mayfield, and were outfought in every aspect on the park," he told the Mail.

"The arm wrestle was never in our favour, and it was a disappointing result. We weren't that far away, but we conceded three tries in quick succession and that killed our chances.

"Training has been hard, but we've been working on the things we were slipping up on really well.

"I'm confident with the week's rest that we can go to Milford and give them a run for their money.

"The four-game winning-run that came to an end was sad to see, and we'll look to get back on the horse this week quickly."

It will be the first time Spence's side have faced Milford in Division One, and the coach is admitting he doesn't know what to expect from the opposition. However, Milford's team-work is renowned, and Spence realises his team must negate any combinations to be in with a chance.

"Milford haven't got the same physicality of Rochdale, but they work really well as a team," he said.

"It's our first time that we will be facing them as a Division One club, so we're expecting the unexpected.

"From what I've heard, they go about their business quietly and have plenty of combinations to attack you, rather than individual threats."

Chris Penrose is out for an indefinite period after sustaining Grade 3 ligament damage, but the Warriors welcome back Rory Neilson for his first game of the season.
