A REVELLER punched a man who made sexual advances towards his girlfriend before calling an ambulance and handing himself in to police, Hull Crown Court heard.
Paul Jordan, 28, was in a takeaway in Newland Avenue, west Hull, at 1.30am on February 2 when his partner went to relieve herself in an alleyway.
A short time later, he heard her screaming and shouting and saw her being chased down the street by a man.
Jordan punched him in the face, fracturing his cheekbone and knocking him to the ground.
He then noticed the man had his trousers around his knees and had been sick.
Jeremy Lindsay, prosecuting, told the court: "An independent witness said the defendant's girlfriend was shouting 'Stop it' and was also saying 'Oh my God, oh my God'.
"The complainant had vomited and there was some blood on the ground."
The victim, who was not named in court, said he had been out drinking but could not recall anything until waking up in hospital.
Jordan, of Wivern Road, east Hull, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm and received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months. He was told his "impeccable" behaviour after punching the man had helped him escape a custodial sentence.
Judge Michael Mettyear told him: "This is a very unusual case. It seems that you were with your girlfriend, that she leaves you to go and urinate across the road, she's seen by a man who is the victim, who is himself clearly in drink, and that he pursues her and then exactly what happened is unclear.
"He made some sort of sexual advance towards her.
"She was understandably outraged and ran away from him screaming.
"Your response was to run towards the screaming and you saw him following her. He saw you coming and tried to stop by changing his direction.
"You lost your temper and punched him. You shouldn't have lost your temper and you should not take the law into your own hands.
"But in the spur of the moment, one can say it's not forgivable but understandable. I can't bring myself to send you immediately to jail.
"You acted impeccably afterwards, you called an ambulance and surrendered yourself to the police."
