HULL: Opposition Liberal Democrats say they will call for a rethink over proposals to close two leisure facilities at tomorrow's full city council meeting.
The Lib Dems have been backing petitions to retain the swimming pools at Ennerdale Leisure centre and keep Springhead golf course in west Hull open.
Labour councillors claim funding cuts by central Government have forced them to consider shutting the facilities, although Ennerdale will remain open for other sports.
Lib Dem deputy leader Councillor Mike Ross said: "Everyone I have spoken to is shocked that Labour councillors have even considered shutting Ennerdale's swimming pools. Likewise, there are real concerns about the way they have handled the golf course."
HULL: A move to retender the city's only park and ride bus service contract is expected to be agreed next week.
The current contract to run buses between Priory Park in west Hull and the city centre was controversially awarded to London-based transport group HCT three years ago after it had previously been held by Hull-based bus operator EYMS.
Since then, services have been operated by the group's Yorkshire subsidiary CT Plus.
Now, city councillors on the authority's cabinet will meet on Monday to consider starting a new tendering process with the aim of awarding a new three-year contract by early December, with a February starting date .
HULL: The Lord Mayor of Hull Councillor Nadine Fudge is hosting a fundraising tea dance at the Guildhall today.
Mixed, sequence and social dancing starts at 1.15pm in the first-floor Reception Room with music being provided by the Juro Dancers.
Entry costs £2 on the door with all proceeds going to the Mayor's Charity Appeal Fund which this year is supporting The Echoes Foundation and Missing People.
