POLICE have said rumours of a child abduction attempt in Bridlington are 'spiralling' on Facebook. Officers have released a statement saying reports a man was loitering outside a house trying to abduct a child are untrue. It also warns people not to take the law into their own hands. The reports stem from a report police had on Thursday that a man was loitering outside a house in Burstall Hill. A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: "Police officers attended the address and took as much information from the home owner as possible, and pursued to locate anyone in the area who may have fitted the description. "Reports made on the Facebook thread suggest a man was attempting to entice a child from an address. I believe this may be rumours spiralling and possibly escalating into something the original incident was not reported as. "It is advised anyone on the Facebook thread who has concerns regarding child safety or any issues in your community speaks to their local police officers to discuss their worries in person and not on social networking sites, as this can cause unnecessary anxiety. "Officers have spoken with the home owner again and no further concerns have been reported regarding child safety and protection and again, and there is no evidence to suggest that children in Bridlington or surrounding area are in any danger." She said officers will be visiting schools in the town in the coming weeks to discuss stranger danger.
