A man, who jumped 200ft from Bempton Cliffs, was rescued by lifeguards yesterday.
Members of the public had reported seeing a man in a distressed state on the cliff top, which was reported to the coastguard.
The RNLI inshore lifeboat Elizabeth Jane Palmer was launched at 1.15pm yesterday.
Paul Hanson, a volunteer crew member, was first on the scene.
He said: "The man was standing but struggling with his breathing. He had suffered an injury to the back of his head and was bleeding. He said that he had fallen off the cliff."
The man was taken by RAF helicopter to Hull Royal Infirmary but the extent of his injuries are not known.
