A woman is critically ill in hospital after being dragged from a pond in a popular Hull park.
The police and ambulance service were called to Pearson Park after a woman collapsed in the water.
Witnesses told police she had been swimming but a passer-by had become alarmed at her situation. When they went to her aid, the woman reportedly failed to respond.
Sergeant Adrian Marsden of Humberside Police, said they had received a call at 7am on Sunday morning.
He said: "A woman was seen swimming in the pond by a passer-by, who asked her to get out as it wasn't the best water.
"She either refused or didn't hear and moments later her body went limp.
"The passer-by dragged her out of the water."
The woman is in a critical condition in the high dependency unit at Hull Royal Infirmary.
The pond has been cordoned off while police carry out their investigations.
