SPORT can be cruel, it can also deliver unbelievable highs, and then there's those quirks of fate that can turn into a real fairytale.
The Thursday before the Challenge Cup semi-final, we at Doncaster had a conversation about a loan signing before Friday's deadline.
Jamie Shaul was the man I wanted, so on Friday we set about completing his signing before the Friday 7pm deadline.
Having not played any rugby for around six weeks Jamie was over the moon with the possibility of simply getting a game again.
The loan would have meant he joined our club for a minimum of 28 days before being eligible to be recalled by his parent club.
However, his joy turned to despair in a matter of hours with a clause meaning he was unable to join us at the 11th hour.
It meant Shaul was again sidelined with a quality full-back already ahead of him in Shannon McDonnell.
Then McDonnell falls victim to a nasty injury in the cup semi-final, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Now it's despair back to joy for Shaul, who now has three weeks to prove himself worthy of a Challenge Cup final shirt and an opportunity to write himself into cup history.
