Michael Dobson: I'll leave Hull KR on a derby high

HULL KR skipper Michael Dobson is determined to mark his 150th appearance for the Robins with a win over arch rivals Hull FC.

Preparing for his 15th and final derby, ahead of his return home to Australia to play for Newcastle Knights, Dobson admits it is the game he will miss most when he leaves.

With seven derby wins and seven defeats under his belt, the 27-year-old will go into Sunday's clash hoping for an eighth success to send himself and Rovers' fans home happy.

"I'm really going to miss these games," Dobson told the Mail.

"To be a part of these occasions is special because the fans dislike each other so much.

"It's so vocal in both the KC Stadium and Craven Park that you can't hear yourself think.

"You don't get any bigger occasions than the Hull derby.

"I've been lucky to be a part of a fair few derbies now and I love them.

"Reaching 150 games for this great club is a nice milestone.

"It will be something I can look back on later in life and hopefully it will be a winning memory."

Dobson has been Rovers' talisman in recent years, helping KR to lead the Super League series 12-9 over the Black and Whites.

Needing the win to consolidate their place in the play-off places, and open up a four-point gap on the Challenge Cup finalists, Rovers will need him to be at his mercurial best if they are to secure the season's final bragging rights in front of their fans.

"It means a lot to us winning the last derby of the season," Dobson said.

"The fans don't get another derby until January so we want to send them into the off-season happy.

"It's a massive game for us in terms of where we are in the top eight.

"If we lose, Hull will go above us on points difference.

"If we win, we pull away from them a bit more and will take us a step closer to securing our place in the top eight."

Reflecting on his impending exit to the NRL on a one-year deal, Dobson admits it will be hard to leave after giving over five years service.

"I always have second thoughts when I make a big decision about what I'm going to do next," said Dobson, who admits he had to think twice before agreeing to join Newcastle.

"At the end of the day, it's the best decision for me.

"It's something I'm looking forward to because it's a new challenge for me in my life."
