Former Hull City favourite Jack Hobbs says he wants to prove Steve Bruce was wrong to sanction his move to Nottingham Forest.
Hobbs - a key member of City's promotion-winning squad - is now determined to get into the top flight with Forest.
And he says he will be motivated by proving a point after Bruce decided he was the defender who had to be sacrificed as part of the Tigers' squad-strengthening plans.
He told the Nottingham Post: "Of course I would like to prove him wrong.
"I want to test myself at the highest level and I was disappointed by what happened at Hull. But this is a new chapter for me and it is a period I am looking forward to.
"The decision (to join Forest) was quite easy, as soon as I became aware that I was not in the plans at Hull.
"I was disappointed to find that out, because we had got promoted and I wanted to test myself in the Premier League.
"As soon as I was told what the situation was, I took a look at the clubs who were interested and, when I was aware of Forest's interest, it was an easy decision."
Hobbs now hopes to repeat City's promotion success - which he puts down to the mental strength of the squad.
"The number one thing is consistency.
"We were holding on for 1-0 wins a lot of the time last season. Sometimes we had to scrap for things, we had to battle for results – but that ultimately won us promotion.
"It was all about mental strength. It is a difficult league, there are a lot of games and you always have to be focused for every single minute of it.
"The important thing about Hull winning promotion last season was that, if one player was missing for whatever reason, we always had somebody else ready to step into the fray and do just as good a job."
