THE wife of an East Yorkshire hairdresser who died two years ago from cancer has raised £30,000 in his memory.
Celebrity stylist Matthew Davidson died two years ago, aged 39, following his battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Following his death, Matthew's wife, Amy, set up the Matthew Davidson Trust to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham.
A fundraising day held at The Wheatsheaf pub, in Kirk Ella, on Sunday – two years after the day Matthew died – has now seen Amy hit the £30,000 target.
She said: "I have been counting up the money and so far we raised about £2,250 on Sunday, with donations still coming in.
"This means in total this year we have raised about £13,000.
"If you add this to last year's amount of £16,000 we have raised £29,000 altogether.
"Our aim was to raise £30,000 in three years, so we have passed our target, which is fantastic."
The money raised will go towards funding the role of youth support co-ordinators on the Teenage Cancer Ward.
Amy, 31, said: "Matthew would have absolutely loved it on Sunday.
"Music was his life and he would have been up there on the stage singing along."
Matthew, a partner at the renowned Mark Hill Salon in Kirk Ella, won many prestigious national awards, styling Bafta nominees, as well as top TV stars including Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby.
Matthew was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in January 2009 and underwent chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiotherapy, which was partially successful, but he later relapsed.
Amy said: "I miss Matthew every single day and I will miss him every day for the rest of my life. He would be very proud of everyone who has helped raise this money for charity."
