MAYNOR Figueroa stamped his Premier League mark on Hull City's pre-season campaign last night as his wonder strike inspired a 1-0 victory at Peterborough United.

Figueroa's 30-yard drive midway through the first half settled a tight contest at London Road and announced his arrival into the Tigers' fold in spectacular style.

A groin injury has limited the Honduran's involvement during City's pre-season programme but a flash of brilliance in only his second appearance showcased his quality ahead of the new term.

Assistant manager Steve Agnew said: "He's a strong boy and he packs a punch when he's shooting. It's a fantastic goal, 30 yards out in the top corner.

"That's the quality he's got. He's an experienced player who knows his position and he could be a really valuable asset for us.

"He's had a groin problem at the back end of last season but he's getting there now."

Figueroa's strike was City's first goal from open play in almost five hours of football and capped an improved performance from Steve Bruce's men.

"We pressed the ball quicker but our use of possession could be better, that's something we can still work on," added Agnew.

"We put a lot more crosses into the box and had one or two chances that went just across bodies. We looked more of an attacking threat.

"We're three weeks into a pre-season programme and so far, so good."

City now enjoy a short period at home before travelling to Germany for a two-game tour on Friday, where they face Dynamo Dresden on Saturday and Eintracht Braunschweig a week today.
