Bees swarm into wildlife garden in Pearson Park

WEST HULL: The Pearson Park wildlife garden was closed temporarily after a swarm of bees descended on the area.

Thousands of honey bees entered the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust-owned garden yesterday.

Beekeeper Chris Coulson was called to help remove them.

He set up a basket in the trees, which the bees used to shelter from the rain.

Once they were collected he took them away to rehome them in a hive.

Jess Charlton, of the trust, said: "We had to halt the volunteer work day that we were holding and the gates have been closed to the public.

"We are coming to the end of the bee swarming season, so we were surprised to see them.

"They came in overhead. One minute the sky was clear and the next it was full of bees.

"For nature-lovers like ourselves, it was very exciting but it could be quite scary for some people."

EAST HULL: A hand-built mountain bike has been stolen from a garage in Sutton House Road.

Thieves climbed a fence in the adjoining garden and got in through a side door.

The bicycle has a bright white frame with a transfer saying "Yorkies" on it.

It is believed the offenders left the garden with the stolen cycle the same way they entered, passing it over the high perimeter fence.

It happened between 2pm and 4.30pm on Saturday.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.

Alternatively, calls can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
