PUPILS at a school saved from closure celebrated the end of the term in style with a posh prom.
Year 6 leavers at Dunswell Primary School dressed up in tuxedos and posh frocks for a happy end to their time at the village school.
A gleaming limo collected the 12 excited pupils who will be moving up to secondary school in September for an evening to remember.
The youngsters were whisked off for a photo shoot at Hull's Pearson Park, followed by a meal at Frankie & Benny's restaurant in Kingswood.
They were then driven back to the school for their end-of-term disco. Mother-of-three Julie Reed, who campaigned to save the school from closure by East Riding Council, said the prom was a happy end to a difficult school year.
She said: "The children were very excited and loved it – they said the prom was the best thing that had happened to them this year after all the worry about the future of the school."
The 88-pupil primary is being taken under the wing of Swanland Primary School Academy Trust, saving it from closure.
Mrs Reed said: "We wanted the pupils to leave for secondary school with good memories of their time here, rather than bad memories about all the uncertainty over the school's future.
"It was the first time we had organised a prom and we're now planning to make it an annual event for the Year 6 leavers each summer."
Mrs Reed's son William, 11, wore a tuxedo for the prom.
William, who will be joining Beverley Grammar School in September, said: "It was great being picked up in a limo.
"We got lemonade to drink and we stopped off at Pearson Park for photos, then we had a bit of a drive round before going for a meal and the school disco.
"It felt really special and was a good way to finish at the school."
William's prom partner Georgia Jackson, 11, said: "The prom was really fun, it made you feel really special.
"It has been really good at Dunswell Primary School.
"I feel it has really helped my education and I have really enjoyed it there."
