BEVERLEY Braves turned on the style to demolish Cottingham Tigers 54-0 at the latest series of nine-a-side competitions.

With the Hull and District Youth Rugby League taking a break for the summer, the shorter format is aimed at keeping sides ticking over.

West Hull played host to their first tournament, with their under-14s taking on Beverley, Cottingham and Hull Isberg under-15s in matches lasting 15 minutes each way.

Beverley's fast passing style proved well suited to the nine-a-side format in their rampant win over the Tigers.

In the opening minutes, James McGahey's perfectly-timed pass found Joe Wardill, who accelerated at pace to round the defence to touch down.

Players convert their own tries with a drop kick which Wardill did well adding the two points.

Will Johnson forced his way over following some great play for Braves' second try.

McGahey linked up with Wardill again for another good try, before Wardill turned provider for Harry Inman, who also converted well.

McGahey released another precision pass to Johnson who made a high speed charge to score and added the two points successfully for 32-0 at half-time.

The Braves maintained their momentum after the break as Inman scooped up a loose ball for an easy try.

Cottingham continued to battle and an early kick caught Beverley off-guard, but Conor Egan made an excellent chase and dived on the ball.

Dylan Clifford scored a great individual try, which he converted, before Connor Davies delivered a brilliant, clinical pass to the supporting Wardill, who sprinted to the sticks and converted his own try.

HAVING beaten Hull Isberg 16-12, West Hull under-14s faced Beverley under-15s, who made their age difference count with a 52-0 win.

McGahey opened the scoring by finding a gap and converted his try well, before delivering a stunning pass to Wardill to increase the lead.

The West Hull lads had lots of ideas and strong tackles from Keegan Bartlett helped keep them at bay.

Keenan Barker looked dangerous every time he ran with the ball and the yards he gained strengthened Beverley's attacks.

It was Johnson who put points on the board next after he made a great interception to power to the line.

Jay Black had a tidy game from hooker with his array of passes to first receiver.

McGahey put more points on the board as he went down the wing to score, but Callum Officer's tackles kept it to a 20-0 lead for Beverley at the break.

Egan made impressive yards to give the advantage to Beverley and from this McGahey found Wardill on an explosive run to score and convert.

Nathan Collinson made a fantastic scoot to gain impressive yards and the resulting play saw Barker get a great try.

Collinson was instrumental in the next try as he scurried with the ball and played in Connor Davies to score with ease.

Barker scored the next with a twisting run up field, converting the try well.

Wests' gallant effort continued and they attacked the Beverley line strongly, only to be held up on the line and stopped from putting points on the board.

A long run from Johnson at speed was caught with a great tackle from Wests, but with possession near their line Clifford scored an easy try from close range and converted to finish the match 52-0.

IN the remaining match, Hull Isberg beat Cottingham Tigers 32-18.
