A severe weather warning remains in place for Hull and East Yorkshire this morning, with forecasters warning heavy downpours are possible. Six hundred sandbags have been delivered to the East Riding as a precaution against flooding. Mobile pumps are also on standby. A fallen tree has blocked the B1246 in both directions at the Bainton roundabout, Middleton-on-the-Wolds, this morning. Today is expected to be largely bright and warm, with temperatures around 24C. The Met Office spokesman said: "Further thundery downpours are likely across more eastern parts of England at first on Wednesday, although these should clear from the west during the early morning. "There is also a risk of further heavy showers developing during the afternoon. "The public should be aware of the risk of localised disruption to travel due to surface water flooding." Storm damage has forced The Beverley Arms Hotel has cordon off a section of pavement outside the premises. The fire service removed loose concrete fascia from the second storey of the hotel after a 12in lump of concrete came down in North Bar Within during Monday night's storm. Hotel owner Mark Coubrough said: "We have put a cordon up for health and safety reasons and builders are coming to make sure it's safe." The storms in the early hours of Tuesday morning may also be to blame for knocking out telephone lines in parts of Hull yesterday, KC said.

A lightning strike also caused problems on the trains yesterday after a level crossing and signals were put out of action at Beverley.

Meanwhile, residents in Goole are braced for possible flooding.

The town has been plagued by surface water flooding during the past couple of years.

The failure of the pumping station in Carr Lane has been blamed for the flooding that left a number of homes under water twice in less than a year.

But Yorkshire Water is confident it has prepared for any heavy rain this time around.

A spokesman said: "With the heavy rain the region has experienced overnight and the threat of more rain to come, we're taking some additional precautionary measures in Goole.

"We have additional pumping capacity at the Carr Lane pumping station to deal with increased flows and we are confident the pumping station will be able to deal with the forecast weather.

"However, we will be speaking to customers in the area to offer sandbags to them as a precautionary measure.

"We will also be storing a further supply of sandbags at the Carr Lane pumping station to enable us to distribute them quickly, if needed.

"We will, of course, be closely monitoring the situation to assess how the new pumping equipment deals with the increased flows."
