ONE of Hull's most haunted pubs is to reopen to the public this week.
The George Hotel, located in Land of Green Ginger, Old Town, will reopen tomorrow under the ownership of Hull couple Kevin Conman and Fiona George.
The couple, who took over the pub in June, have called in paranormal experts to help explain the strange noises and ghostly goings-on that have been reported since they took over.
Fiona said: "The first day we got the keys to the pub, I had been in there on my own tidying up.
"I had this strange feeling I wasn't on my own throughout.
"Kev then came back and we were getting ready to leave the pub for the night, so I turned the music off and was waiting inside while Kev loaded the car.
"I was just about to switch the lights off when all of a sudden the music came blaring back on."
The couple also say they have heard footsteps in the rooms upstairs.
Kevin said: "Just the other day, I was coming out of the men's toilet and I felt something run past me and then I heard something as if someone was running up the stairs.
"There was also a really strong smell of a smoking fire."
Paranormal experts have been called to the public house to explain the strange goings-on.
Josephine Affleck, director of Totally Paranormal Events, based in East Yorkshire, visited Kevin and Fiona on Tuesday evening.
Josephine said: "When decorating or renovation, or a deep clean – which is the case here – has taken place in a building, it can disturb any of the spirits that may be there.
"People tend to think activity only takes place in the evening, but this is not the case. You do get a lot of activity in the daytime.
"I remember coming here a few years ago and there was a lot of activity towards the far end of the pub and up on the stairs."
The building dates back to the 17th century and has the smallest window in England, reportedly used in the days when the pub was a coaching house.
Kevin and Fiona have arranged for a charity paranormal evening to take place at The George on Friday, September 20, when Josephine and her team will return to discover more.
Josephine said: "The team will return with specialist equipment, including our night vision CCTV and spirit recorder, which can pick up words and sentences from any present spirits."
More information will be announced nearer the time.
Kevin said: "We are not scared by what has been happening at all.
"We just find it really fascinating and want to learn more about the history of the pub and what is causing all these strange sounds and activity."
The pub will reopen to customers at noon tomorrow.
