Blokes who hate shopping? Centre sets up 'man creche' with boys toys

MANY men loathe trawling around the shops with their wives and girlfriends, as they spend hours searching for the perfect outfit.

So St Stephen's shopping centre has come up with the perfect solution – a male drop-off zone.

Instead of the man crèche being stocked with toys and games for children, it is being filled with everything a man could want to keep him occupied.

They can tune into Sky Sports HD, ride a Formula 1 simulator, enjoy a game of Fifa 13 or relax on the sofa with free wi-fi, lads mags and snacks.

The chill-out zone will be on the first-floor terrace this weekend as a trial and to help couples avoid arguments.

Jim Harris, centre manager at St Stephen's, said: "The drop-off point takes the pain out of partners shopping together by getting the man out of the way.

"It's well known that men's shopping patience threshold is perhaps a tenth of that of women, so we've decided to help avoid disputes by giving them an area.

"Of course, it's not just a male-only zone, we welcome anyone to use the drop-off."

Hull City stars will be chilling out in St Stephen's at the weekend, joined by Hull City mascot Roary the Tiger.

They will also be running signed football competitions for fans. Mr Harris said 70 per cent of shoppers at St Stephen's are women and they can often miss out on trying on outfits because they are concerned their partners have become bored after being dragged about.

He said: "This is a trial and if, it works, it could be here more often.

"There will be 52in plasma screens and we'll feed the men and keep them occupied before they have to leave. Women like to take their partners along, often to carry their bags or ask for their opinion but this will just give them a little break from shopping.

"Everyone will go home happy and we hope it's a big success."

Bonita Caruana, 25, and her boyfriend Dean Young, 28, of west Hull, approve of the new drop-off zone, although they often like to shop together.

Bonita said: "I have friends whose boyfriends can get a bit annoying when they are out shopping, it's definitely a good idea for couples. We see women with their partners a lot in St Stephen's and it's definitely worth a try to see if it works."

Dean said: "The Sky TV and wi-fi sounds great – all they need now is a free bar."

To help roar the Lions on in tomorrow's 3rd crucial test against Australia, we are giving away a FREE Lion chocolate bar when you buy the Hull Daily Mail from our Stand at St Stephens
