HULL KR coach Craig Sandercock believes his side's never-say-die spirit can take them a long way after inflicting a 22-21 defeat on Catalan Dragons in Toulouse.
Clawing their way back from 21-16 down with nine minutes remaining, the result was in the balance right until the final seconds when Steve Menzies kicked across field but put too much on it as Craig Hall caught the ball to seal the win.
Whilst the 44-year-old admitted his side would have lost this game 12 months ago, he was quick to point out that his players need to keep up their 80-minute performances if they are to make the play-offs.
"It's a good result for our boys even though we weren't at our best," Sandercock said.
"It is satisfying to win and when they scored with nine minutes left to take the lead, last year we would have lost. There's no doubt about it.
"We had to hang in there, complete our sets and kick-chase well.
"In the first half, we had a 45 per cent completion rate and we gave away a few penalties.
"But the effort and never-say-die spirit got us through because we were sloppy and we know that.
"To hang in and beat a quality side like Catalan away from home is the most pleasing part."
The win did come at a cost though with Travis Burns aggravating his shoulder injury and is an early doubt for Rovers' trip to St Helens on Friday night.
Burns injured his shoulder making a last ditch tackle on Catalan centre Daryl Millard who looked set to score.
Sandercock said losing his stand-off would be a major blow.
"I'll be disappointed if we lose Travis," Sandercock added.
"He got a bang on his shoulder and we need to treat him carefully because he was outstanding.
"His scrambling on the right edge defence was fantastic.
"He did the injury towards the end of the game and that's a shame because he is on fire for us."
