TRAVELLERS who set up camp on Bellfield Playing Fields in east Hull were reported within minutes of their arrival.
About 20 caravans descended on an area of land opposite The Robin pub yesterday morning and nearby residents have already called Hull City Council to complain.
Jane Foster, 34, who lives off Bellfield Avenue, said: "They've taken over some council land and people aren't happy about them being here.
"They don't often bring good news and it's just infuriating.
"I phoned the council and someone told me another resident had complained and the matter is in hand."
Ms Foster said she has tweeted Labour peer Lord Prescott and East Hull MP Karl Turner to ask for help.
Last year, caravans arrived at the Lambwath School, off Saltshouse Road in east Hull, and the council had to move fast to secure the site.
Ms Foster said: "I work hard and pay my way and I don't agree with what they are doing.
"People like to walk their dogs on the playing fields and I can see at least eight caravans from the back of my house."
The site is also where the Park Training Incentive (PTI) holds its weekly fitness sessions, which often attract hundreds of people.
A spokesman from Hull City Council said: "We're aware that travellers have set up an illegal encampment on Bellfield Avenue playing fields.
"We are currently working with our multi-agency partners, following our procedures and will start legal proceedings as necessary.
"We will continue to monitor this area and would encourage any residents with concerns to report them."
Anyone with an issue regarding the travellers should call Hull City Council's customer service centre on 01482 300300.
