HULL: Staff at First Hull Trains have been complimented by the chief executive of an independent rail watchdog.

Anthony Smith, the chief executive of Passenger Focus, recently travelled on a First Hull Trains service from Doncaster to London.

In his blog post, entitled Hull Trains: I Finally Get To Give Them A Go, he wrote: "These services score well in our rail National Passenger Survey. In the autumn 2012 survey, of the 570 passengers who filled in one of our questionnaires 95 per cent were satisfied overall – a pretty good score. I know many passengers are very loyal to the service.

"So what was it like? Good first impression. Staff member got out and stood by door welcoming and helping passengers. There was a very good-natured and friendly ticket check. The coach at the front of the train had plenty of unoccupied seats and there was nice, spacious feeling to train. Announcements boomed slight- ly. Toilets were clean. And, most importantly, bang on time."

EAST RIDING: Thieves stole a chainsaw from a digger in a village.

Police are appealing for information after the chainsaw and a set of keys from the digger, which was parked in Green Lane, East Cotting- with, were stolen.

It happened between June 8 and 9. Anyone with information should call police on 101.

HULL: Police officers will be meeting residents at the annual Victoria Dock fun day.

PCSO Stuart Tovey and other officers will be at the event to give residents crime prevention advice.

The fun day takes place from noon on Saturday, June 22.
